The Finance Minister of Curaçao specifies the new gambling law

Javier Silvania, Finance Minister of the Government of Curaçao, issued a statement condemning his demands “Disinformation” about the country’s new gambling law.

The National Gambling Regulation, a new legislation that will completely reform the way gambling is regulated in Curaçao, was presented It will be submitted to the country’s parliament for approval in December 2023. Until the new legislation is passed, Curaçao will continue to operate in accordance with the existing national regulation on offshore gambling legislation.

In the statement, the finance minister acknowledged that the national gambling regulation and its submission to parliament were expected to lead to an increase “broader debate”. However, Javier Silvania was keen to warn against the spread of misinformation about the legislative process.

The finance minister said he had been watching “A significant amount of misinformation” and asked firmly “against the spread of unconfirmed rumors or speculation” about the new legislation. “Complete and accurate information can only be guaranteed when issued by the ministry itself or by the Curaçao Gaming Control Board.” Silvania added.

The current licensing process remains in effect

The Finance Minister also expressed his full support for the Curaçao Gaming Control Board in its transition to the new legal framework. “To claim otherwise would be reckless and misleading.” Javier Silvania warned.

The Minister of Finance also confirmed in the relevant statement that the current procedure for issuing licenses would be maintained. According to Javier Silvania, this is what it means “The critical milestones published on December 20, 2023 will also not be changed.”

The Critical Milestones document details the Department’s process for transitioning from the current framework to the new one. One of the key dates in this process will be March 31, 2024, as from this date it will no longer be possible to register sub-licenses on the Gaming Control Board website and then apply for a direct license. Additionally, no new license renewals or master license renewals will be possible after this date.
